Go Nagai : Mazinger Z, UFO Robot Grendizer…

Go Nagai is best known for creating giant robot series, including “Mazinger Z” which was one of the first giant robot anime to air on TV. This series has been very popular in Japan and overseas and has inspired many other giant robot anime. He also created “Great Mazinger” and “UFO Robo Grendizer”.

Goldrake (or “Ufo Robot Goldrake” in Italian) first aired in the UK in 1980 under the title “UFO Robot Grendizer”. The animated series aired on children’s television channels of the time and was a big hit with young viewers. Like many other Japanese anime of the time, Goldrake was extensively edited for UK audiences, including changes to the storyline and dialogues. However, despite these changes, the series has retained its charm and popularity with sci-fi fans.
