The beginnings of Nintendo

Nintendo’s history dates back to Kyoto, Japan in 1889 when Fusajiro Yamauchi founded the company as a manufacturer of traditional playing cards. Over the years, the company evolved into a producer of electronic toys and games, before entering the video game business in the late 1970s.

The success of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

In 1983, Nintendo released its first major game console, the Nintendo Entertainment System, also known as the Famicom in Japan. The NES was a huge success, with iconic titles like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. This console helped revive the video game industry after the crash of 1983 and established Nintendo as a major player in the industry.

The era of portable consoles with the Game Boy

In 1989, Nintendo released the Game Boy, a revolutionary handheld game console that changed the way gamers experienced video games. With its compact design and long battery life, the Game Boy has captured the hearts of millions of gamers around the world. Iconic titles like Tetris have made this console a staple.

The modern era with the Nintendo Switch

In 2017, Nintendo launched its revolutionary hybrid game console, the Nintendo Switch.
